The Barbeque and Rub Story

Over the years I have done a lot of grilling. I have never liked barbecue sauces because they are messy, and they make everything stick to the grill. Most of them also contain sugar, which burns easily and to me are way too sweet. With this in mind I decided to try to put together my own dry seasoning and rub mix.

I started all this back in 1978. It took me about 6 months to come up with a mixture that was to my liking. The taste was great, not too sweet, and as a bonus, I no longer had to clean up the "sauce mess." As friends came by to visit for cookouts, my new seasoning mix was becoming very popular with everyone. At that time grilled turkey tenders were a big hit.

As time went on, I experimented more with the seasoning, and started using it on chicken, ribs, and wild game. I also found it was great for mixing with flour to use as a batter for frying chicken and fish. I also bought a dehydrator, and started making jerky, a favorite of everyone.

Up until this time, I had been mixing the seasoning in small batches in my kitchen, and selling it at cost to friends and family. It was at such a demand that this was becoming a weekly event. A lot of friends and business associates told me I needed to start marketing my seasoning, and selling it to the public. looked into it, and in 1988, I started having it mixed and put into 10 oz. containers.

I had done some open pit barbeques for festivals and outdoor events, and I started getting calls from restaurant owners who wanted to purchase my seasoning. I began selling it to restaurants in bulk and also started selling at outdoor trade shows. Most recently we have expanded to the internet and we are proud to say we have customers all over the US, and almost everyone who tries a bottle comes back for more.

I hope you enjoy Barbeque Seasoning and Rub as much as we do. We welcome your comments and suggestions, and we'd love to hear about what you've cooked up. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me at Mr.Roger@barbequeandrub.com.
